Favourites India Football team were held by plucky Bangladesh in their match of the SAFF Championship at the National Football Stadium in Maldives on Monday. After yesterday’s outcome, Bangladesh claimed four points from two matches, while India earned one point from one match.
India led the first half 1-0.
Sunil Chhetri of India put his team ahead by a placing shot using a short pass of his teammate Udanto Singh at the D-box of Bangladesh in the 26th minute of the play.
After the interval, Liston of India was roughly charged by Bangladesh defender Bishwanath Ghosh in 53rd minute of the game. Thus referee showed a red card to Bishwanath Ghosh and Bangladesh became a 10-man team.
Yeasin Arafat of Bangladesh equalized the margin by a header in the 73rd minute of the match. Yeasin got the ball in the danger zone of India from a header of his compatriot Rakib Hossain which he got on his way from a flag-kick of Jamal Bhuiyan.
Earlier, Matin Mia’s right-side cross was cleared by Indian defender Rahul in the ninth minute of the encounter.
Saaduddin of Bangladesh got the ball from a free-kick of Jamal Bhuiyan but Saaduddin’s shot went wide in the 26th minute of the clash.
Ace striker Sunil Chhetri got another chance in the 38th minute but his shot narrowly passed away the sidebar.
Bangladesh got the easiest chance in the 39th minute. But Biplo Ahmed’s shot was saved by Indian custodian. Biplo got the ball from a pass of his teammate Saaduddin.
Rahul’s shot was deflected by a Bangladeshi defender in the 41st minute of the game.
Bangladesh made a 1-1 draw with India in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers match in 2019. Later, Bangladesh lost to India by two goals to nil in their return FIFA World Cup qualifiers match in 2021. Bangladesh will take on Maldives in their third match at the same venue on October 7.
