Sports Reporter :Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team moved into the quarterfinals of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup defeating Scotland by 114 runs in their second Group A match at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a healthy total of 256 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then bundled out Scotland for 142 off 47.2 overs. Bangladesh had a shaky start as they lost their early two wickets for 17 runs.Then opener Saif Hassan and Nazmul Hossain Shanto repaired the damage contributing 101 runs together for the third wicket partnership before Saif Hassan was bowled out by M Rao when Bangladesh’s score was 118 for the loss of three wickets.Nazmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten with 113. His 117-ball innings was decorated with 10 fours. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance.After dismissal of Saif Hassan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mehedi Hasan Miraz salvaged their team from danger adding together 100 runs for the fourth wicket stand before Mehedi Hassan Miraz was caught at the square leg by F McCreath off Mohammad Ghaffar when Bangladesh’s total was 218 for the loss of four wickets.Mehedi Hassan Miraz hit a captain’s knock of 51. He hit four fours in his 48-ball knock.Opener Saif Hasan knocked a patient 49 from 108 balls featuring two fours.Mohammad Ghaffar restored some parity for Scotland claiming four wickets at the cost of 60 runs.Scotland made a modest start with N Flack and R Johnston, the two openers put on together 48 runs before Flack (20) was caught at the point by Nazmul Hossain Shanto off Mehedi Hassan Miraz.Later, Scotland failed to build any notable partnership against the superb bowling attack of Bangladeshi youngsters.Azeem Dar was the only batsman for Scotland who earned respect from the Bangladeshi bowlers.Azeem Dar notched up an exact 50 from 89 balls. He was caught at the cover by Saleh Ahmed Shaon off Mohammad Saifuddin when Scotland’s innings came to an end.Mohammad Saifuddin and Saleh Ahmed Shaon played the key role in demolishing Scotland innings with a good support from Ariful Islam.Mohammad Saifuddin and Saleh Ahmed Shaon grabbed three wickets each instead of 17 and 27 runs respectively, while Ariful Islam bagged a pair of wickets for 28 runs.
