The government has welcomed the move of the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary to look into then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s alleged hands in the interference in an ‘independent investigation’ against Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh.
“It shows no one is above the law. Such practice of interference in the internal matter of another country using an important office must stop,” State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam told UNB on Saturday.
The US Senate Committee on the Judiciary has asked the US State Department for information on whether then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used her position to intervene in an ‘independent investigation’ against Muhammad Yunus by a ‘sovereign government’ in Bangladesh.
“If the Secretary of State used her position to intervene in an independent investigation by a sovereign government simply because of a personal and financial relationship stemming from the Clinton Foundation rather than the legitimate foreign policy interests of the United States then that would be unacceptable,” Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the committee, wrote to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
“I thank Senator Grassley’s office for looking into this. Everything mentioned in the letter is accurate,” said the State Minister who is now in Japan.
He said the US Senate Committee’s move will ‘expose’ Prof Yunus’ ‘wrongdoings’ even further.
“This was a case of obstruction of justice by a foreign country,” said the State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
