Guinness World Records authorities have officially certified Bangladesh’s record for singing national anthem simultaneously by the largest number of 254,537 people on March 26.
The record has also been officially posted on the Guinness World Records website (http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records-4000/most-people-singing -a-nationalregional-anthem-simultaneously/ The number of people singing a national anthem simultaneously was 254,537 and was achieved by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh (Bangladesh) at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka, on March 26, 2014, said the website. Sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Ministry and supervised by the Armed Forces Division, shattered the Guinness World Records for singing a national anthem simultaneously using 254,537 people.
The attempt was undertaken on Independence Day at the National Parade Ground.
People from all walks of life, mostly in red and green costumes, sang together the national anthem of Bangladesh, ‘Amar Sonar Bangla Ami Tomay Bhalobashi’ in an attempt to break the previous record held by India.
The previous record for the greatest number of people to sing the same national or regional anthem at the same time belonged to Sahara India Pariwar (India) for May 6, 2013 event in Lucknow when 121,653 people sang India’s national anthem.
Representatives from Guinness-accredited auditor were present at the Parade Ground on the Independence Day to oversee the attempt by Bangladesh and presented relevant documents and images to the Guinness World Record committee for formal validation.
With official certification from the Guinness World Record authorities, Bangladesh’s name is now in the record books as the highest number of people singing a national anthem simultaneously.
