South Africa (SA) declared their first innings making 573 for the loss of four wickets against Bangladesh on the second day of the Second Test at Bloemfontein in South Africa on Saturday.
In reply, Bangladesh were bundled out for only 147 runs in the first innings and they were forced to follow-on on the same day.
The tourists’ were at seven for the loss of none at the stumps. Bangladesh need 419 runs to avoid innings defeat.
Bangladesh faced a debacle as they lost their early six wickets for 65 runs.
Then Liton Das and Taijul Islam contributed 40 runs for the seventh wicket before Taijul Islam (12) was bowled out by Duanne Olivier when Bangladesh’s score was 115 for the loss of seven wickets.
After dismissal of Taijul, Liton Das was caught by Plessis off Rabada when the Tigers’ total was 143 for the loss of eight wickets.
Liton Das alone fought back hitting a superb 70. His 77-ball innings was belted with 13 fours. It was Liton’s second Test half-century.
Then Mustafizur Rahman (0) was caught by Markram off Keshav Mahsaraj when Bangladesh’s score was 143 for the loss of nine wickets.
Rubel Hossain (10) was cleanly bowled out by Rabada and Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Earlier, opener Soumya Sarkar (9) was bowled out by Kagiso Rabada when the tourists’ score was just 13 runs.
One-down Mominul Haque ( 4) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock off Olivier when Bangladesh’s total was 26 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim (7) was caught at the gully by Temba Bavuma off Olivier when the team’s score was 36 for the loss of three wickets.
Third-down Mahmudullah Riyad (4) was caught behind by Kock off Wayne Parnell when Bangladesh’s total was 49 for the loss of four wickets.
Opener Imrul Kayes (26) was caught behind by Kock off Rabada when the visitors’ score was 61 for the loss of five wickets.
Fifth-down Sabbir Rahman (0) was caught at the extra cover by Parnell off Rabada when Bangladesh’s total was 65 for the loss of six wickets.
Pacer Kagiso Rabada bowled extremely well and finished as 13.5-4-33-5.
Olivier grabbed three wickets instead of 40 runs.
Besides, Keshav Maharaj and Wayne Parnell took one wicket each for seven and 36 runs respectively.
South Africa resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 428 for the loss of three wickets.
Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 89 and 62 runs respectively.
Then Amla and Plessis added together more 107 runs in the fourth wicket stand on the second day before Hasim was bowled out by Subashis Roy when the hosts’ total was 535 for the loss of four wickets.
Hashim hit a terrific 132. His 163-ball innings was ornamented with 17 fours. It was Amla’s 28th Test century.
Faf du Plessis remained unbeaten with 135. His 181-ball knock was ornamented with 15 fours. It was Faf’s seventh Test century.
After Amla’s dismissal, Plessis and Quinton de Kock put on together 38 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership.
Kock remained unbeaten with 28. He hit two fours and two sixes in his 27-ball innings.
Subashis Roy was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh. He grabbed three wickets at the cost of 118 runs.
