Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem
Ali underlined the need for sharing experiences among the BIMSTEC nations to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in health sector. “Despite limited resources, Bangladesh has made commendable progress in achieving the health related MDGs such as life expectancy, total fertility rate, infant and under-5 mortality rate,” he said this on Thursday while addressing the inaugural function of JIPMER-BIMSTEC Telemedicine Network (JBTN) at Pondicherry, India.
The envoy said Bangladesh is now on the right track to achieve the health related SDGs, according to a message received here this afternoon. Referring to the success of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in combating the water borne diseases, he said “We need to share our common experiences and share the best practices about combating the epidemics.”
“Health care facility is one of the areas where we need mutual and renewed efforts to shine as a region,” he said.
He welcomed JBTN’s goals of sharing knowledge through tele-lectures, quality control in surgery by sharing operative videos, use of tele-consulation in medical treatment and promoting mobile health programmes in BIMSTEC countries.
Indian State Minister for Health Faggan Singh Kulasate presided over the meeting attended by representatives of BIMSTEC countries.
