Bangladesh Football team returned home on Thursday from Sri Lanka. Bangladesh took part in the Four-Nation Football Tournament at the Racecourse Ground in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. Bangladesh made a 1-1 draw with Seychelles in their first match on November 10. Bangladesh defeated Maldives b y 2-1 goals in their second match on November 13. Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka by 1-2 goals in their last match on November 16.
Seychelles stormed into the final bagging five points from three matches. Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka collected four points each from their respective three matches. But by virtue of better goal difference, Sri Lanka moved into the final. The final will take place today. Bangladesh failed to reach the final as they finished third in the first phase of the football meet.
It may be mentioned that according to the latest FIFA rankings, Bangladesh have achieved 187th position, Seychelles have obtained 199th position, Sri Lanka have taken the 204th position and Maldives have earned 156th position. Though two teams are below from Bangladesh, according to the latest FIFA ranking, but Bangladesh failed to beat their weaker opponents.
Earlier, Bangladesh finished fourth in the recently concluded SAFF Championship and failed to reach the final of SAFF Championship, the most prestigious football meet of the South Asian region.
Before that, Bangladesh took part in the Three-Nation Football Tournament in Kyrgyzstan. Bangladesh finished third and failed to reach the final. Besides, Bangladesh lost to Kyrgyzstan Under-23 Football team in a friendly football match.
Earlier, Bangladesh participated in the Tri-Nation Football Tournament in Nepal. They reached the final but lost to Nepal in the final.
Bangladesh competed in Group-E of the FIFA World Cup qualifier. A total of five teams took part in that qualification phase for Qatar World Cup 2022. Bangladesh finished fifth earning two points from eight matches.
