Bangladesh fought back scoring 322 runs for the loss of six wickets in the first innings against the powerhouse of world Test cricket India on the third day of the lone Test match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.
Earlier, India declared their first innings making a mammoth 687 runs for the loss of six wickets on the second day (Friday).
Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim led the team from the frontline with the help of promising Mehedi Hasan Miraz to resist the superb bowling attack of India.
Opener Tamim Iqbal (24) and one-down Mominul Haque (1) resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 41 for the loss of one wicket. But, Tamim was foolishly run out by a joint-effort of Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar before adding any run on the third day of Test. At that time Bangladesh’s score was 44 for the loss of two wickets.
After dismissal of Tamim, Mominul Haque (12) was trapped leg before wicket by Umesh Yadav when the tourists’ total was 64 for the loss of three wickets. Then Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 45 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Riyad was trapped leg before wicket by Ishant Sharma when Bangladesh’s score was 109 for the loss of four wickets.
After departure of Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim built a worthy partnership. They put on together 107 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Shakib Al Hasan was caught at the mid-on by Umesh Yadav off Ravichandran Ashwin when the Tigers’ total was 216 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib hit the day’s highest of 82. His 103-ball innings was belted with 14 fours. It was Shakib’s 21st half-century in Test cricket.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 81. His sedate 206-ball knock was ornamented with 12 fours. It was Mushfiqur’s 16th half century in Test cricket.
Promising Mehedi Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten with 51. He hit 10 fours in his 103-ball maiden half century in Test cricket.
After dismissal of Shakib, Sabbir Rahman failed to show with willow. He (16) was trapped leg before wicket by Ravindra Jadeja when Bangladesh’s score was 235 for the loss of six wickets.
After removal of Sabbir, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan Miraz put on together 87 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket partnership before the umpires drew the bails for the third day.
Riyad scored 28 from 57 balls including four fours.
Umesh Yadav bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 72 runs.
Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket each for 54, 60 and 77 runs respectively.
