The newly appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka Tareq Md Ariful Islam on Monday presented his credentials to Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the President’s House in Colombo.
Following the presentation of credentials, the high commissioner conveyed the greetings and personal regards of the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the Sri Lankan President, a foreign ministry press release said here.
The envoy also conveyed the invitation of the Bangladesh President and the Prime Minister to him to visit Dhaka.
Referring to the excellent bilateral relations existing between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the High Commissioner expressed his commitment to work further for strengthening the ties between the two countries.
He also discussed about the issues of enhancing bilateral trade, concluding bilateral FTA, enhancing shipping connectivity, signing of coastal shipping agreement, investment promotion and cooperation in pharmaceutical sectors etc.
President Rajapaksa reciprocated the greetings to Bangladesh President and Prime Minister and thanked them for the invitation extended to him.
The Sri Lankan President showed keen interest to increase cooperation between Dhaka and Colombo in the areas of agriculture, agro-based products, regional tourism, investment promotion, ICT, high tech industry and education.
Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardene was present at the ceremony.
