Two-day Denims & Jeans Expo has started here aiming at showcasing the country’s strength in denim sector to the overseas buyers.
Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran Wednesday inaugurated the expo in city’s Hotel Radisson.
The Indian High Commissioner said the RMG products of Bangladesh are very much attractive among the foreign buyers due to its high quality, which has also helped it to secure a strong base in global market.
“Denim is very much important for the RMG sector and Bangladesh would move ahead in the RMG sector adding value through denim,” hoped Pankaj Saran.
Twenty-four companies from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Germany, China and Brazil are participating in the exhibition to showcase their denim pants, fabrics and modern machinery.
The event is scheduled to end tomorrow will remain open only for invitees from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm.
BGMEA President M Atiqul Islam, BKMEA President A K M Salim Osman, MP, and BTMA President Jahangir Alamin were present on the occasion as special guests.
Different brands, buying houses, apparel entrepreneurs, fashion professionals, stakeholders and companies related to technology, chemicals, piece dyes of the industry from Europe, USA, UK and several Asian countries are the invitees in the event.
Sandeep Agarwal, organizer of the expo, said: “Bangladesh is the world’s second largest denim apparel manufacturing country after China. That’s why the country deserves such an event. “
Recalling the first show which was held on March 2014, he said this event is an extension of the last event and brings all stakeholders together again.
Bangladesh has become the favorite destination of the globally reputed retailers and brands.
According to the Denimsandjeans.com website, Bangladesh exported about 74 million pieces of denim apparel to US and shipped around 140 million pieces of jeans to Europe in 2013.
The country was the largest exporter of men’s jeans to Europe in 2013 with 89 million pieces shipped around the world despite many odds compared to 65 million pieces exported by China in the same period.
Last year, exports of Bangladesh denim apparel surged by 11.48 per cent to US and to EU by more than 19.65 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.
