Bangladesh has been elected president of the Conference of the Parties for the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
The four-day conference began at the Unesco headquarters in Paris on June 12 and will end on Thursday.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor started to preside over the thirteen agenda in the conference on June 13 after the formal announcement from participants.
In his inaugural speech, Noor said, “History, heritage and culture of Bangladesh are co-ethnic, diverse and rich. Bangladesh has given utmost importance to preserving cultural heritage and diversity. The issue has also been included in our Constitution very significantly.” “The current government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been working relentlessly to promote, develop and preserve cultural heritage and diversity,” he added. The ordinary session happens every two years in June while Bangladesh will lead until the 7th conference. Bangladesh was unanimously elected chair of the Conference from the Unesco headquarters and it was conveyed to Cultural Affairs Ministry through email on June 3.
