Scientists, Researchers and Public Health Experts have said that Bangladesh has crossed the peak of third wave attack of the covid-19 infections.
After analyzing the infection and death rate and the pace of the spreading of the fatal disease, they concluded that the country had already crossed the peak of the third wave covid attack in the last week of January.
However, they warned that any negligence to maintaining hygienic measures may push the country further surge of the fatal virus.
ASM Alamgir, Chief Scientific Officer of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) told media, “The infection rate is now in lower trend. So we can say that the country has crossed the peak of the third wave attack of the Covid-19.”
“The trend of the infection of the virus is now on decreasing, but everyone should be cautious. The hygienic measures must be executed because, the infection rate
will come below 10pc and then five percent,” the scientific officer said. He said further that the decreasing pace of the infection is slow.
It was speedy pace of reducing the infection in the past two waves, but it is not found in this time, ASM Alamgir said.
About 18,94, 535 people have been infected and 28,744 died from the covid-19 since March8, 2020 as per the data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). But, Abu Jamil Faysal, Member of the Advisory Committee of the DGHS said there is no real scenario in this data.
“This data showed hospitalised and tested people’s number only. But many people stayed beyond the data who have got treatment at home and kept themselves out of covid test,” Abu Jamil Faysal said.
Sayma Rahman from Dhaka’s Gulshan area was one of them.
“I had every symptom of Covid. Then I kept myself isolated and taken medical treatment from my family doctors. Later, I got back tastes in my tongue. I had recovered without being tested,” Sayma said.
Sources said, after controlling the coronavirus spreading for three and a half months, the infection rates started increasing on the last days of the December.
On January 6, the number of infections crossed one thousands and on January 20 it recorded over 10,000 infection in a single day.
The pace of infections over 10 thousands remained till February 3.
Meanwhile, on January 28, the DGHS recorded the infection rate as 33pc as highest in this wave and reported 15,440 cases on the day.
The infection rates decreased day by day from the date.
On February 8, the infection rate climbed down to 20 pc and it was 17 pc on Thursday.
Meanwhile, data of the IEDCR showed that about 80 pc of the covid patients infected by Omicron variant while 20pc of them contaminated with Delta variant.
Dr. Mushtak Hossain Advisor of the IEDCR, Abu Jamil Faysal and ASM Alamgir, everyone said that the country already crossed the peak of the third wave attack.
But all of them asked the people to be more aware and to follow health guidelines to curb the spreading of the deadly virus.
