Cricketers of the preliminary squad of Bangladesh took part in the practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday. The cricketers are taking preparation for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Cricket team will arrive in Dhaka on May 16 to play three ODI matches against Bangladesh.
The players, who participated in the recently concluded two-match Test series, could not join the practice sessions as they are now in home quarantine. Besides, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman could not took part in the practice sessions as they are now in the quarantine in the separate two city hotels. Shakib and Mustafiz returned to Dhaka on Thursday last from India.
Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain, Naim Sheikh, Soumya Sarkar, Mosaddek Hossain, Imrul Kayes and the others, who did not played in the two-match Test series, took part in the practice sessions yesterday.
The practice session will be continued until May 9. After that the cricketers will get Eid holidays. The cricketers will undergo Covid-19 test on May 17. If they become negative for coronavirus test, they will join the practice sessions from May 18.
Bangladesh Cricket team will play three ODI matches against Sri Lanka on May 23, May 25 and May 28 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced recently a 23-member preliminary squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
The cricketers of the preliminary squad are- Tamim Iqbal, Naim Sheikh, Imrul Kayes, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah Riyad, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam and Shohidul Islam.
