Bangladesh on Friday reported 1,202 new cases of coronavirus infections while 15 new fatalities were registered in the last 24 hours.
“The number of the new infections was the highest in a daily count, taking the tally to 20,065, while the death toll from the disease climbed to 298 with the new fatalities,” said Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in the daily online bulletin on the COVID-19 situation in Dhaka.
Dr. Sultana said that the recovery count also rose to 3,882 after another 279 COVID-19 patients were released from hospitals in the same period.
She said total 8,582 specimens, among 9,539 collected samples, were tested in the last 24 hours at 41 laboratories across the country, the most in a single day.
Among the deceased, seven are males and eight are females.
The country was on the 69th day on Friday since the first infections.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 while the first death on March 18.
The government in recent days is easing the shutdown and opened factories, markets and shopping malls apparently for reviving the economy of the country.
