The Bangladeshis living in North Carolina, a state in the Southeastern United States, has called upon the US government to withdraw the GSP suspension on readymade garments of Bangladesh.
They made the call at a community ‘congregation’ in Raleigh, North Carolina recently, said a BGMEA media release on Saturday.

Chairman Dan Blue attended the event. They said, though Bangladesh is recognised as a least developed country, its garment products have been experiencing the highest level of import tariff in the US market.
Many Sub-Saharan African countries were awarded with trade preference; however, Bangladesh is deprived of any kind of trade preference in the US market, they added.
The Bangladesh community expressed its expectation that the US would withdraw the GSP suspension on the readymade garments of Bangladesh.
Rashidul Islam Rubel, Member, State Executive Committee North Carolina Democratic Party, organised the community gathering with the help of the Bangladesh community members of North Carolina.
Aninday Nath, Saif Islam, Quazi Sayeed, and Mobarak Chowdhury participated in the discussion. FM Hasan Nahid, Arshan Hasan, Melissa Zaman, Nashmil Islam, Sharmishtha Banik of the Bangladeshi community living in North Carolina were, among others, present.
