Bangladesh clinched the One Day International (ODI) series 2-0 against West Indies remaining with one ODI match. The tourists defeated the hosts by nine wickets in the second ODI at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bangladesh registered an easy six-wicket victory over West Indies in the first ODI at the same venue on July 10.
Chasing West Indies’ paltry total of 108 off 35 overs, Bangladesh romped home making 112 for the loss of one wicket when they had 29.2 overs to spare.
West Indies’ batters failed to resist the superb bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers. Right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed played the key role in demolishing West Indies’ innings. Besides, right-arm pacer Shoriful Islam and right-arm spinner Mosaddek Hossain gave a good support to them.
Miraz captured four wickets in the space of 29 runs, while Nasum claimed three wickets at the cost of 19 runs. Nasum Ahmed was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling display.
Shoriful Islam and Mosaddek took one wicket each for nine and 37 runs respectively.
Keemo Paul, Shai Hope, Kyle Mayers, Rovman Powell and Brendon King were the only batters of the islanders, who could reach double-digit figures scoring 25 (not out), 18, 17, 13 and 11 runs respectively.
Later, Tamim Iqbal and Najumul Hossain Shanto put on together 48 runs in the opening stand before Shanto (20) was caught at the mid-wicket by Akeal Hosein off Gudakesh Montie.
After Shanto’s dismissal, Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das guided their team to reach the winning spot contributing together 64 runs for the unbroken second wicket partnership.
Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten with 50 runs. His 62-ball innings was studded with seven fours. It was Tamim Iqbal’s 53rd half-century in ODI cricket.
Litton Das remained unbeaten with 32 runs. His 27-ball innings was laced with six fours.
Gudakesh Montie took one wicket for 39 runs.
Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the third and last ODI at the same venue on July 16. The match will begin at 7.30pm.
