Indian Nobel Laureate Kailash Satiyarthi on Monday said Bangladesh is the best in South Asia in removing gender disparity.
Kailash, now in Dhaka to attend the IPU conference, made the remark when he met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobahban on Monday evening.
After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.
He said Kailash also praised Sheikh Hasina for her innovative programmes in spreading
education, ensuring women empowerment and education for girl children.
He said once there was a perception among the people of the Indian subcontinent that it is only the NGOs that are working for spreading education and women empowerment. But the perception has changed now as Sheikh Hasina herself is taking and implementing various programmes in this regard.
Kailash, who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Pakistan’s Malala Yousafzai in 2013.
