High officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) here said the present government has attained remarkable success in agriculture sector and urged the officials concerned to put in their collective efforts to uphold the success in the days ahead.
They said there was no need of importing rice in last five years as we had adequate production to feed the nation. “Now we have started exporting rice”.
They stated this while visiting some demonstration plots of newly transplanted aman paddy and addressing a meeting with the district and regional level officials of DAE and farmers at Rajabarihat area under Godagari Upazila of the district yesterday.
DAE and Farmers Field School jointly organized the discussion and field visit in association with Integrated Farm Management Component (IFMC) project. Director General of DAE Hamidur Rahman addressed the discussion as chief guest.
Regional Director of Department of Agriculture Extension Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Director Hazrat Ali, Regional Director of IFMC Project Habibur Rahman and Regional Agriculture Information Officer Abdullh-Hill-Kafi, among others, were present on the occasion.
DAE DG Hamidur Rahman said the role of agriculture sector is very vital towards making the country’s economy functional alongside ensuring food security. He called upon the field level officials and researchers to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
He mentioned that the government has attached highest priority to the agriculture sector and added that the field level officials and researchers should take the responsibilities of reaching the government’s services to the farmers’ doorsteps.
In a bid to boost agricultural production and increase income of the rural farmers, the IFMC project has been adopted to impart training to around 10 lakh male and female farmers on integrated farm management to create employment opportunities through establishing some 20,000 farmers’ field schools.
The initiative is also aimed at creating farmers organizations as well as links among different service providing agencies, market controllers and small investment firms, Mr Rahman said.
The project will have provision for conducting mid-term and final survey to evaluate the outcomes while the implementation process will be continuously monitored.
Besides, the research initiatives will be given due importance to look for time-befitting technology for the farmers.
Once the project is completed, newer employment opportunities will be created for the rural male and female family members of farmers while their annual income will also increase.
