State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, said Bangladesh has attained remarkable success in various development indicators.
He defined the country at present is progressing fast in every sector, especially in improving foreign policy, ICT, food production, power generation and distribution, education, women empowerment, foreign remittance earning, GDP and per capita income. Now the country has become a rice-exporting instead of importing one.
He was addressing a pre-iftar public meeting at Salua Degree College playground under Charghat Upazila in Rajshahi yesterday as the chief guest. Local unit of Awami League organized the meeting with Mofiz Uddin in the chair.
Shahriar Alam said: “We’ve already stepped into that stairs as Bangladesh has been declared a lower middle-income country from the lower-income nation”. “Bangladesh doesn’t want to stay at the lower ladder… it wants to climb to the peak and we will do whatever necessary for that.” Becoming a lower middle income country is certainly something to cheer about. It makes us firmly believe that we will soon elevate to the status of middle income country, he added.
Mentioning that Bangladesh was moving ahead on all fronts, he renewed his government’s vow to turn the country into a peaceful abode in South Asia. He also called for drastic action against all sorts of terrorism, anarchism and subversive activities for the sake of more improvement of the nation. The state Minister said the public in general will surely raise voice and build strong resistance against all destructive activities for greater interest of the country.
Terming the anarchic and subversive activities as an ulterior motive to destroy the hard-earned democracy as well as the nation he said there is no alternative to build social movement to uproot the evil design. State Minister Alam categorically said: “Committing crime against humanity and unleashing terrorism can’t be part of political movement or any political norms. The anti-people and anti-development activists must be eliminated with police-public collaborative efforts”.
Principal of Salua Degree College Abdul Quddus and AL leaders Fakhrul Islam, Mukhlesur Rahman and Nurul Islam also spoke.
