Initiatives are being taken to re-introduce immigration activities at the Ramgarh-Sabroom border. Talks are underway to launch this program at the highest level of Bangladesh and India soon. Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner (HC) to Tripura Muhammad Javed Hossain told reporters during a visit to the Bangladesh-India Friendship Bridge-1 on the Ramgarh Sabroom border on Wednesday (August 11th) afternoon.
He said the launch of Ramgarh-Sabroom land port is a matter of time. This is because the construction of the necessary infrastructure of the land port and the development of the road are being delayed due to the Corona epidemic.
These preparations will take many more days to complete.
In this situation, the governments of the two countries are thinking of introducing immigration activities to facilitate the movement of people from both the countries.
He said Sabroom May has already set up an immigration office and completed all the necessary preparations, including recruitment of manpower. Meanwhile, Sabroom MLA Shankar Roy , Sub-Divisional Ruler Devdas Devvarma, Tripura High Commission First Secretary Muhammad Rezaul Haque, Ramgarh Upazila Executive Officer Mu. Mahmud Ullah Maruf was present.
Before inspecting the Maitri Bridge, Assistant High Commissioner Mr. Javed inspected the Sabra Immigration Office and other facilities set up at the Sabroom border.
After the independence of Bangladesh, hundreds of citizens of the two countries used to cross the Ramgarh-Sabroom border through immigration check posts. This activity was stopped in 1986 due to the unstable situation in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
