Indian Army has handed 20 trained horses and 10 dogs to the Bangladesh Army as gift through Benapole check post yesterday.
The horses and dogs were officially handed to Major General Humayun Kabir of the Bangladesh 55th Infantry by Major General NS Raud of the 17th Infantry Army Cantonment in Uttar Pradesh, India at 12 noon.
Lt. Col Salim Reja, Commanding Officer, 49 Border Guard Bangladesh said the Horses and dogs were brought to Kolkata’s Chashara Army cantonment from the Uttar Pradesh Army cantonment in India first.
They were handed over to the Bangladesh Army at the Benapole Check post BGB camp from Petrapole BSF (Border Security Force) Camp after completing all the formalities, he said.
The BGB official said the Indian Army would give 50 trained dogs to Bangladesh Army as gift and this was the first lot.
Receiving the dogs, Major General Humayun Kabir said: “These trained horses are used in Guard of honour and dogs are capable of detecting drugs and criminals.”
The Indian Army will donate 50 horses to the Bangladesh Army by December this year. 20 horses of his first shipment came to Bangladesh today He added.
