‘BD achieves epoch-making progress in power sector’

Bangladesh has achieved an epoch-making progress in increasing power generation capacity on its way to achieve self-reliance on electricity soon, speakers at a launching ceremony said.
Member of the Parliament from Panchagarh-2 constituency Advocate Nurul Islam Shujan said this yesterday after switching on the six- kilometre newly built power supply line for Kaliaganj’ village under Boda Upazila of the district as the chief guest.
With the switching on of the power supply line, 239 residential connections were brought under electricity supply at the village under Jhaloishalshiri’ Union of the Upazila in the sub-Himalayan district.
Thakurgaon Polli Bidyut Samity of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) implemented the construction works of the power supply line at a cost of Taka 79 lakh to fulfill the long-cherished demand of hundreds of people in the area.
President of Jhaloishalshiri Union Awami League (AL) Md. Tayebur Rahman presided over the launching ceremony arranged at local Kaliaganj Naziratunnesa Girls’ High School ground.
Deputy General Manager of Panchagarh Zone of Thakurgaon Polli Bidyut Samity Mohammad Yunus, Boda Upazila AL President Md. Wahiduzzaman, its General Secretary Faruk Alam, Joint Secretary Rabiul Aslam, local union chairman Abul Hossain and former union chairman Md. Samsuzzoha addressed the ceremony among others.
Upazila level government officials, officials of REB, hundreds of local people including farmers, civil society members, professionals, teachers, students, youths, adolescents and elite were present.
In their speeches, the speakers said the nation has already achieved laudable success in generating power as the country will become self- reliant on electricity soon following the effective steps taken by the present government during the last six years.
They suggested to the people for sincerely using power, utilisation of energy saving bulbs and digital meters, timely payment of electricity bills, less power consumption during peak hours, preventing illegal power connections etc to save electricity.
The chief guest suggested the concerned authorities, officials and experts to ensure excellent management in power generation and supply systems to make the best use of electricity ensuring its uninterrupted supply.
