Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu MP, said that if the educated youth could conquer the inertia of their minds then they could redraw the map of global poverty.
“It is important to realize the dreams and objectives if one is to provide leadership to the nation”, he added.
The minister was speaking as the Chief Guest at the third convocation ceremony of the Asian University for Women, where over a thousand students from, home and abroad, gathered for the ceremony.
The minister said that Bangladesh is a glowing example of women’s empowerment and the convocation is taking place at a time when the country’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, has been awarded ‘Women in Parliaments-WIP Global Forum Award’ a couple of months back.
Referring to his personal lifestyle the minister said “Observe the lives of the common man, there is a lot to learn. Identify their successes – it will help you to move ahead in life.”
Others who spoke on the occasion included US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Fahima Aziz, trustee of the university, Young Joon Kim, and a fresh graduate from the university, Zahra Jamila Ikra.
“It is a day of great happiness and victory for the students as the day has made the foundations of their life strong”, he said. “
They will take the inspiration from here to become patriots and lead their countries to new levels,” the minister said.
The chancellor of the university Cherie Blair handed over the certificates to 108 fresh graduates of the university.
The Asian University of Women was established in 2008 and has students from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Local people’s representatives, invited guests and families of the graduating students were present at the ceremony.
