Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team lost to Afghanistan Under-19 Cricket team by three wickets in the fifth and last one-day cricket match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Bangladesh won the five-match one-day series 3-2.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh made 155 off 47.4 overs.
In reply, Afghanistan reached the winning spot making 156 for the loss of seven wickets when they had just three balls to spare.
Bangladesh had a good start as openers Mahfijul Islam and Iftikher Hossain put on together 48 runs in the opening stand before Mahfijul Islam (11) was trapped leg before wicket by Nangeyalia Kharote.
Later, Abdullah Al Mamun and Naimur Rohman built another notable partnership. They contributed together 47 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Abdullah Al Mamun was caught by Bilal Ahmad off Shahidullah Hasani when Bangladesh’s total was 154 for the loss of eight wickets.
Abdullah Al Mamun top-scored with 37 runs. He hit one four and one six in his 82-ball innings.
Iftikher Hossain, Naimur Rohman and Tahjibul Islam added 26, 16 and 15 runs to the Bangladesh Youths’ total.
Nangeyalia Kharote and Bilal Sami of Afghanistan grabbed three wickets each instead of 27 and 33 runs respectively, while Shahidullah Hasani and Izharulhaq Naveed bagged two wickets each for 25 and 29 runs respectively.
Later, Ishaq Zazai, Ijaz Ahmed and Izharulhaq Naveed shone with the willow.
Zazai hit a fine 52. His 79-ball innings saw five fours and two sixes.
Ijaz Ahmed made 32 from 77 deliveries featuring one four.
Izharulhaq Naveed remained unbeaten with 29. He hit two sixes in his 49-ball knock.
Ashikur Zaman of Bangladesh claimed three wickets at the cost of 37 runs, while Aich Mollah, Naimur Rohman, Mushfik Hasan took one wicket each for 21, 25 and 32 runs respectively.
