Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) suspended its Jagannath University (JnU) unit after a fresh clash on the campus on Sunday.
Golam Rabbani, General Secretary of BCL central committee, confirmed The New Nation in the evening.
“The committee has been suspended as the leadership has failed to maintain peace on the campus,” he said.
A four-member body has also been formed to investigate the incidents of factional feuds. It will report within seven
working days. The clashes left at least 10 including the proctor and assistant proctor hurt.
Five university buses were vandalised on the campus. All the injured were rushed to Jagannath University Medical Centre. Three were later taken to hospitals.
Witnesses said, rivalry and supremacy were reasons behind the clashes that erupted on the campus around 9:30am yesterday morning.
JnU Proctor Noor Muhammad was physically assaulted when he approached the students to stop the violence.
Chase and counter-chase between the two groups armed with machetes, hammers, iron rods and wooden sticks continued till 1:30pm.
JnU Vice Chancellor Prof Mijanur Rahman said, “We will investigate it. Action will follow the probe report.”
The injured are Md Shaheen Mollah, Mamun, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Shamsul Huda Gazi, Rezoan, Israk Chowdhury, Mahfuz and Pranto.
