UNB, Chattogram :
Two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the ruling party’s student front, at Chittagong University locked themselves in a fresh clash on Sunday noon, while the shuttle train service of the university remained halted. The fresh clash occurred around 3pm and continued for around two hours while chase and counter-chase took place between the groups.
The agitation injured a student Soabur Rahman Kanak of History Department, who was sent to the university’s medical center for treatment, said officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station Belal Uddin Jahangir. The situation was brought under control around 5pm and additional forces have been deployed on the campus to fend off any untoward situation, the OC said. They also held two students for interrogation, Belal Uddin added. Meanwhile, thousands of students suffered in the morning as the shuttle train service was halted centering a factional clash of BCL that started on on Saturday night. Sources said the service had remained suspended since train driver Khorshed Alam was kidnapped from Sholoshohor Rail Station area around 8:30am by Chhatra League activists.

Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan told UNB that the Chhatra League activists released Khorshed around 11:30pm. Five people were injured in a turf war between the two groups – Bijoy and CFC – on the campus. The injured are Md Ilias of Islamic Studies department, Obaidur Rahman Limon of Islamic history and culture, Niloy Hasan of public administration, Mahfuzur Rahman of Statistics, and Priyam Roy Pranto of Geography and Environment. Acting Proctor Pranab Mitra Chowdhury said he had heard about the clash. “The train service was halted after the driver was abducted following the clash,” he said. “The authorities concerned have asked police to take necessary action.”
