BCL men beat up journo at CU

Some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Chittagong University Unit allegedly yesterday beat up a journalist when he resisted them from ragging a general student in ShuttleTrain.
The victim is identified as Minhajul Islam Tuhin of Arabic Department under 2015-16 academic session and he is also CU correspondent at the daily Alokito Bangladesh.
Sources said, the BCL activists were ragging a student for quite some time in Shuttele train.
 Seeing it, Minhajul Islam protested the unruly BCL activists causing the attack on him.BCL activists also beat up Mizanur Rahman severely at that time. Afterward the injured journalist was sent to CU Medical centre.
The accused are Mahmudul Hasan Rupark of English Department under 2013-14 academic session , Tanvir of the same department, Mahin of Institution of Modern Language under 2017-18 session , Polash of Islamic History department under 2016-17 academic session. All of them are known as the followers of Mohibul Hasan Nawfel Chowdury, central organising secretary of Bangladesh Awami League.
Minhazul Islam lodged a written compliant to the CU administration in this regard.
Contracted, CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdury said we got a written allegation against 4 students. We will take action against them who involved in
this connection after investigation.
President of CU Journalists Association Baizid Emon said, “We demand exemplary punishment to the BCL activists who were involved with the attack. We also demand that the CU administration should ensure the security of journalists at CU campus.”
Death threat to CU Vice Chancellor protected : Several hundred people who reside surrounding Chattogram University formed a human chain on the campus on Sunday demanding arrest of those who gave a “death threat” to Vice Chancellor Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury on August 16.
They also demanded stricter security measures for the VC.
On August 28, Prof Iftekhar disclosed information about the death threat — allegedly from extremists — after the university had reopened following Eid vacation.
