BCL men attack VP Nur and other supporters

Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) Vice-President Nurul Huq Nur and Social Welfare Affair Secretary Akhtar Hossain and some of their supporters were attacked by a section of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men on Tuesday afternoon when they went to SM Hall to meet provost demanding justice for Farid.
BCL men also hurled eggs and mud on them when they went to the hall to meet with the provost.
Shamsunnahar Hall Union Vice-President Tasnim Afroz was also assaulted by the BCL men, they alleged.
Farid Hasan, a residential student of SM hall was beaten up by a group of BCL men on Monday night for contesting the hall union polls as independent candidate. He was not given nomination from BCL. Farid was also expelled from BCL for contesting in the Hall polls.
Victim Farid said around 12:00am some BCL men led by SM Hall unit Vice-President Wasif Hasan Piyash went to his room and asked him to come out. When he refused the BCL activists forcibly dragged him to dining room where the hall union General Secretary Zulias Cizar , hall unit BCL President Tahsan Ahmed Rasel, Genreal Secretary Mehedi Hasan Taposh , expelled leader Mizanur Rahman Pikul were present and swooped on him, he claimed.
The other BCL men then started beating him with iron rods, sticks cricket stamps, Farid then ran from the place to escape beating. Later, Farid was also expelled from the hall by the attackers at night.
Farid took primary treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and got 32 stitches on the right side of his forehead.
Farid Hasan, a Masters student of Urdu Department of the university who collected nominations form for the general secretary post but later forced to pull out from the election allegedly facing threat from the BCL leaders.
Hall union General Secretary Zulias Cizar claimed that Farid was involved with drug peddling and abuse but he did not know anything about attack on Farid adding that if beating general students he had nothing to do with that.
Farid also filed a written complaint yesterday with the proctor office attaching the details of assaulters, asking the proctor to take proper actions against them.
Hall provost Mahbubul Alam Joarder said they would form a probe body to verify authenticity of the allegations raised against Farid and would take further actions following the probe report.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, students from different departments of the university held a rally at the base of Raju sculpture protesting attack on Farid.
While addressing the rally, DUCSU VP Nur gave three day ultimatum demanding justice for the victim and warned that if university administration failed to take any steps regarding this, general students would give fitting reply.
Later they brought out a protest rally and handed over a memorandum to university proctor Golam Rabbani demanding justice for Farid.
