The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, on Monday attacked president of Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA) Masum Billah and two other students of the
university. Two BCL activities were held for their alleged involvement in the incident.
The BCL men attacked Masum Billah, the DU Correspondent of the Daily Somokal, and two others in the TSC area in the evening. They were taken to the Dhaka University Health Centre. The two other students have been identified as Mehedi Hasan of Mass Communication and Journalism Department and Riaz of Islamic Studies Department.
According to eyewitness, the BCL men brought out a procession to celebrate the victory of Bangladesh Cricket Team against England. Masum, Mehedi and Riaz were crossing the TSC area at hat time. Being annoyed, the BCL activists of Haji Mohammad Mohsin Hall assaulted them. On information, the proctorial team of the university visited the spot and caught Baset and Saad, activists of Mohsin Hall unit of Chhatra league. They have been taken to the Shahbagh Police Station.
Confirming the news, DU Acting Proctor Professor Dr Amzad Ali said that legal action would be taken against those who were involved in the incident.
