Bangladesh Chhatra League on Monday expelled one of its activists and suspended four others in connection of infighting in Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen recently over dispute in forming to central committee.
A press released signed by BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and General Secretary Golam Rabbani announced the decision.
The press release said, Salman Sadik, worker of BCL Zia Hall unit of DU has been expelled.
The four other has been suspended temporarily. They are Gazi Mursalin Onu, General Secretary of BCL Science faculty unit, Zia Hall unit members Kazi Siam and Sazzadul Kabir and former member of central executive council Zarin Dia.
Central Executive Council of BCL took the decision amid protest by a section of BCL men following the scuffle on May 13.
At least 200 deprived leaders and activists staged a demonstration on the university campus on the day, protesting the inclusion of controversial persons in the central committee.
At that time, at least 20 BCL activists were hurt in an attack carried out by supporters of the leaders comprising in the committee.
An attempt to hold a press conference at Madhur Canteen in the evening was foiled in the attack.
BCL also issued show cause notices to BM Lipi Akhtar, president of BCL Rokeya Hall unit, Hasibur Rahman Santo, planning and programme affairs secretary of Zia Hall unit, asking them to respond as to why the political decision would not be taken against them for violating the party’s discipline.
They have been asked to respond the notice by three working days.
