BCL leader held on charge of rape in Begumganj

A local leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), ruling Awami League-backed student organisation, has been arrested on the charge of rape of a teenage girl in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali early Sunday.
The alleged rapist has been identified as Suman, 32, resident of Choumuhani Municipal Area of the upazila. He is also locally known as a marked local Yaba trader. The victim’s father filed a case against the rapist Sumon under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at Begumganj Police Station on Saturday (October 24). After that, the police arrested Sumon on Saturday mid night.
The arrested Sumon was also an executive member of the past committee of the Municipal Juba League and a drug dealer.
Begumganj Police Station Officer in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman Sikder confirmed the incident to the media and said that BCL leader Sumon broke down the door of a house in Chaumuhani Municipal area of the Upazila around 2pm on Friday and raped a teenage girl on the threat of a weapon. The girl later informed the matter to her parents.
The victim’s father on Saturday filed the case against the rapist Sumon with the Begumganj Police Station as the plaintiff over the incident.
After that member of law enforcer arrested the rapist Sumon, OC added.
