Police arrested a leader of Kagapasha union unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Borohati village of Baniachong upazila on Saturday for allegedly violating a schoolgirl.
The arrestee was identified as Samsul Alam, 35, vice-president of Kagapasha union unit of BCL and son of Akbar Chowdhury of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Baniachong Police Station Nirmulendu Chakrabarti said a team of police launched a drive at the house of Samsul at noon and arrested him.
Quoting the victim’s family members, the OC said Samsul entered the room of the class V girl of a government primary school in the village on Friday midnight and raped her when she was sleeping alone in her room.
Samsul was arrested after the victim’s mother filed a case against Samsul with Baniachong Police Station on Saturday noon, the OC said.
Later, the girl was admitted to Sadar Hospital, the OC added.
