Police arrested a leader of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the capital on Sunday in connection with the physical assault of a university teacher.
The arrested was identified as Mamun Khan, a master’s student of JU Urban and Regional Planning Department and education affairs secretary of university unit BCL.
Sheikh Mohammad Badrul Alam, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, said investigation officer of the case arrested Mamun from the capital
and took him to Ashulia. Mamun Khan attacked Prof Golam Moinuddin Chisti, chairman of the JU Urban and Regional Planning Department, in front of the Social Sciences Faculty on January 23. Later, the university administration filed a case with Ashulia Police Station in this connection.
Mamun was expelled from the university and declared persona non grata on the campus. The university administration also cancelled his Honours certificate.
