Mohammad Juel, CU :
Bangladesh Chhatra League, central committee’s Assistant Secretary Diyaz Irfan Chowdhury committed suicide, as per autopsy report. Additional Police Super (Special Branch) Rezaul Masud confirmed it to the journalists on Wednesday.
But Diyaz family and his friends turned down the report, claiming Diyaz was obviously killed by his political rivals. Protesting the report, they held a press conference in the Chittagong Press Club the same day. Diyaz’s elder sister Advocate Jubaida Sarwar Nipa accused Diyaz’s political rivals to have killed her brother.
Mentionable it is that the body of Diyaz was found hanging in his rented house adjacent to the Chittagong University on Sunday night, a day after CU concluded its historic golden jubilee programme.
Diyaz was an Assistant Secretary of the BCL, central body, and former Joint Secretary of the Chittagong University unit. He studied at Finance and Banking Department under 2006-07 Session.
Mystery shrouds, as some say that it was a planned murder. Visiting the spot and talking with the police and his political colleagues, it was found that the body of Diyaz was hanging with a ceiling fan to which the length of the bed was no more than five feet eight inches.
His mother Jubaida Amin Chowdhury claimed, “My son was brutally killed and after the barbarous killing the death body was hanged with the ceiling fan, adding the tender grabbers killed my son”.
Meanwhile, Diyaz’s political colleagues allegedly vandalized a demu train and blockaded shuttle train between Chittagong University and the port city on Wednesday morning protesting the mysterious death.
Shahbuddin, Station Master of Sholoshahar Railway Station, told the correspondent that two shuttle trains were halted by a group of students at Fatehabad Railway Station around 8:45am by lying a tree on the railway.
Around a hundred aggrieved supporters of Diyaz blockaded the Chittagong- Hathazari Road for half an hour. Confirming the incident, CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury said the university authorities were trying to resolve the matter.
Campus sources said, tensions has been prevailing on the campus after the incident and the police is on high alert. Additional police force were deployed on the campus to avert any untoward situation.
In view of the barricade, the students faced acute transport crisis and were seen to return homes as there was no anyway to reach the university. Rehena Akther Rekha, a post-graduation student confirmed it.
Meanwhile, BCL Vice-President Md Mamun said, the death of Diaz couldn’t be a suicide. It was obviously a cool blooded murder. He urged the authority to bring the killers to justice.
