A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was beaten to death by some unidentified miscreants at Shekhertek in the city’s Adabar on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Moshiur Rahman Masu, Adabor Ward BCL Environment and Social Service Affairs Secretary, police said.
“After being informed about the incident, we reached the spot on Road No. 10 at Shekhertek around 10:00pm and rushed Moshiur to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead,” said Aminul Islam, Inspector (investigation) of Adabor Police Station.
When Moshiur went to the area on his bike a gang of miscreants attacked him with thick rods and sticks, the police official said.
“We have got names of some of the men involved in the murder. We are working to arrest them,” he said.
Moshiur’s father Julhash Dewan said that Moshiur had an disagreement with Ledu Hasan, a Savar Jubo Dal leader, and his cohorts Molla Shawpan, Sagar, Selim, Tapan and few others.
The quarrel took place when Moshiur obstructed Ledu and his accomplices from pursuing Yaba trade in the area, said Julhash, “Earlier, similar disputes occurred between the two, but as Moshiur was influential in the area and had a lot of followers, the matter did not go beyond the control.”
“Moshiur wanted to apologise to Ledu as he did not want to disrespect his senior leaders. Moshiur asked Sohel, a guy from Savar, to help him reconcile with Ledu. Sohel called Moshiur on Sunday night and said Ledu wanted to resolve the matter. Moshiur left home on his bike to meet Ledu in Shekhertek area, where Ledu was already waiting with his cohorts. When Moshiur approached Ledu to apologise, they viciously beat him to death,” according to him.
