Police have arrested a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and two others on charges of raping two women in Jhenaidah’s Kotchandpur.
Kotchandpur BCL President Shaheen Sheikh, Krishna Das, and Raju Ahmed were arrested on Wednesday morning, Kotchandpur Police Station OC Biplab Kumar Saha told bdnews24.com.
They were later produced before a court which ordered them into jail.
One of the victims, a housewife, started a case
against five earlier in the morning over the alleged rape incident of May 5. She has been sent to Jhenaidah General Hospital for medical test, the police officer said.
According to the case dossier, the plaintiff from Monoharpur of Kaliganj was waiting at Kotchandpur Railway Station with another woman for a train to Dhaka on that day.
Some youths told them that the train would be late and took them to a mango orchard, saying that they could have some rest there.
The plaintiff alleged the youths raped them overnight. Jhenaidah BCL President Shakil Ahmed said the district unit committee has recommended Shaheen’s expulsion to the central committee.
Quoting the guardians of the plaintiff, the local MP from the Awami League, Nobi Newaz, however, said BCL leader Shaheen was not involved with the rape. The officer said police were trying to arrest the two other accused – ‘Sabuj’ and ‘Asgar’.
