JSD (Inu) backed Bangladesh Chhatra League on Tuesday demanded posthumous
trial of former President General Ziaur Rahman on charge of ‘murdering Colonel Taher through a farcical trial’.
The organisation also demanded forming of an information commission for investigation into the secret killings that had taken place inside cantonments during the regime of General Zia.
The leaders of the organization said this at a rally held at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla on the Dhaka University campus.
Bangladesh Chhatra League President Shamsul Islam Sumon presided over the rally while its General Secretary Shahjahan Ali Saju moderated it.
Shamsul Islam Sumon said, ‘It had been proved through the verdict of the court that sending of Colonel Taher to gallows through a farcical trial was a cold-blooded murder. For this, I, on behalf of the people of Bangladesh demand trial of former military ruler General Zia posthumously.
He alleged that Ziaur Rahman rehabilitated the Razakars and collaborators in the name of introducing multi-party democracy by amending to the Constitution and killed many military officials and soldiers in the name of thwarting coups.
