Staff Reporter :At least seven activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, Titumir College unit, were injured in factional clashes over establishing supremacy on the campus on Saturday.The injured students were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and different medical centers of the capital for treatment. They have been identified as Abu Bakr, Sumon, Mainuddin, Abu Bakr Siddique, Abdul Aziz, Billal Hossain, and Joy. All of them are from Brahmanbaria district and students of the college. Sources and eyewitnesses said that the BCL, Titumir College unit divided into Brahmanbaria and Gopalganj groups have been showing their muscle power to establish supremacy on the campus. The activists of Brahmanbaria group were gossiping in front of the Information Centre of the college. The activists of Gopalganj group went there at about 12:30 pm and asked the Brahmanbaria group to quit the place triggering clashes with local weapons. Seven activists of Brahmanbaria group were injured as a result of the clash. The injured students were taken to DMCH and different medical centers for treatment. Receiving information, Banani Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Two factions of BCL Titumir College unit clashed over establishing supremacy on the campus around 12:30pm, said Wahiduzzaman, Inspector (Investigation) of Banani Police Station.Additional law enforcers have been deployed on the campus to avert further untoward incident, the police official also said.Titumir College unit BCL President Niazul Islam Dollar said that the Gopalganj group of the BCL activists had an altercation with Brahmanbaria group of the BCL men on the campus on Thursday over as to who would first submit examination form. “We are looking into the matter. We will take organizational step against the activists who are guilty,” he said.
