Two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League traded gun shots and crude bombs on Jessore Government City College Campus over controlling of the only hostel of the institute.
One group led by Maruf Hossain Iqbal, President, Govt City College unit of BCL and the other group led by Mohiuddin Rimon, college unit general secretary of the student wing suddenly locked in clashes firing gun shots and hurling crude bombs to take
control of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall at around 1pm on Thursday.
Confirming the information, Sikder Akkas Ali, Officer in-Charge, Kotwali Police Station told The New Nation that two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League locked in clashes on Government City College campus to establish supremacy.
‘One bomb was hurled during the clashes but no bullet was fired’, he added. The students of the college told that the BCL men fired 4-5 rounds of gun shots and exploded same number of crude bombs.
College unit BCL president Maruf Hossain told that terrors loyal to district unit BCL president Ariful Islam Riyad fired gunshots and hurled bombs at general students as they rushed to the hostel to free it from terrorists.
Mohiuddin Rimon, college unit general secretary of BCL said that general students resisted terrorists loyal to Anwar Hossain Bipul, general secretary, Jessore district unit of BCL as they reached the hall to occupy it at noon.
A group of BCL men grabbed the only student Hall of Government MM College on April 15 ousting the inmates of Shahid Asad Hall.
