BCL factional clash in Ctg: 5 injured, vehicles, shops vandalised

At least five people were injured and six business establishments and some 10 vehicles were vandalised during a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Chittagong yesterday.
Of the injured, Md Farhad, 25, and MA Halim Shikder Mithu, 28, were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Pankaj Barua, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH Police Camp.
Witnesses said follower of Wasim Uddin, president of the BCL Omargani MES College unit, locked in a clash with the followers of Arshedul Alam Bachchu, general secretary of the BCL unit, at GEC Intersection at around 4:30pm.

Both the groups, used firearms, machetes and locally made weapons during the clash that lasted for half an hour, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
During the clash, some 10 vehicles parked in front of IFCO Complex in the area and six business establishments, including Bata Bazar, Singer Showroom, Chashma Bazar and VIP Optics, were vandalised.
“They fired five to six rounds of bullet,” said Pavel, a local, adding, “A group was seen to brandish machetes in front of police officials.”
Around five policemen were seen standing there at the time, he added.
Nurul Azim Rony, general secretary of Chittagong city unit of BCL, said the clash ensued over a trivial matter centering supremacy in campus.
Contacted, Dipak Jyoti Khisa, assistant commissioner (Panchlaish zone) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), confirmed that two groups of BCL locked in a clash in the area.
No arrest was made and no case was filed in this regard till 6:00pm.
