BCL clash at DU Secy among 14 injured

Clashes broke out between the two groups of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) regarding sitting arrangement at the BCL’s 74th founding anniversary programme on the Dhaka University campus on Tuesday.
At least 13 people, including Lekhak Bhattyacharya, General Secretary of the central committee of the party, were injured in the incident.
The clash took place at 2pm on Tuesday. The injured students were taken to the Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMC) for the treatment.
The BCL, the student wing of the ruling party Awami League, brought out a rally on the occasion of its 74th anniversary on the DU campus around 2:00 pm. Activists and leaders of different units gathered there with rallies.
At that time, the activists and leaders of Kabi Jasim Uddin Hall unit of Dhaka University took position near the Aparajeyo Bangla just in front of the program stage. After a while, Dhaka College unit activists also reached there and tried to take position, which led them to lock into a conflict, leaving 14 people injured from both groups injured.
Being informed, BCL President Al Nahiyan Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya rushed to the spot and tried to calm them.
At that time, Lekhak Bhattyacharya sustained injuries.
The injured students of the Dhaka University were identified as Jubayer (22), Mahbub (22), Shimul (21), Ghalib (22), Zahir (22), Zahirul Islam Ami (22) and Apu (24), while the injured students of Dhaka College were identified as Hiru (25), Rumon (26), Salman (24), Salman-2 (23), Al-Amin (20) and Abu Noman (28). Four of them sustained injuries in the head. DMCH resident physician Md Alauddin said, “14 injured students of DU took first aid there.”
In this regard, BCL President Al Nahiyan Khan Joy couldn’t be reached even though several attempts were taken.
Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Rashedul Alam confirmed the matter to the media saying that clashes broke out between two groups of BCL activities on the Dhaka University campus on the occasion of the BCL’s 74thfounding anniversary.
Several students injured in the incident came to Dhaka Medical College & Hospital. Details will be informed later, SI added.
