BCL cadres bar contractors from dropping tenders in Barisal PWD office

Cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student front of ruling Awami League on Tuesday noon drove away the other contractors from Public Work Department (PWD) office in the city.
The contructors came there to submit tenders documents for works worth Tk.46.20 core under 5 packagges.
These tenders of PWD was called on October 13, 2014 to construct building and develop lands under five groups for construction of merin academy in Dapdapia area of the city.
Witnesses said 12:00 noon Tuesday was the last time of dropping tenders. Cadres led by Jasimuddin, city president, Asim Dewan, city secretary and Liton Mia, ward level leader of BCL took place in the PWD compound from 10am.
The BCL cadres barred the general contractors from dropping tenders in the box placed at the PWD executive engineer’s office and drove away them from PWD premises by beating at downstairs of the office building and chasing. Law enforcers deployed there failed to play active role and panic created in thr area.
Police deployed there controlled the situation and closed the entrance gate of the office ousting the trouble makers, claimed Inspector Swakhawat Hossain, officer in charge of Kotwali police station.
Mashiur Rahman, a general contractor of PWD, said he after barred to drop tender at PWD office, went to other spot for dropping, but yet not sure whether tenders dropped in others spots could be safely added for consideration.
