Staff Reporter :
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League, on Wednesday allegedly attacked a procession of left leaning student organisations at the Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj and injured 20 students.
They were admitted to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Narayanganj district Chhatra Union President Maitri Ghosh decried police role during the incident, as the members of police who were present during the attack did nothing to stop it.
Fatulla Model Police Station SI Md Mustafa, however, rejected the
allegation that the assault took place in their presence.
The leaders and the activists of the left leaning student organizations were going to hand over a memorandum with several demands to the college principal. The memorandum demanded, action among others, against ‘admission trade’ allegedly carried out by the BCL men.
The activists of BCL led by Tofa’ and ‘Alif’ beat the leftist students to disperse the procession when it entered the campus’s main entrance at 11am.
