A group of BCL activists snatched ballot boxes in the poll of the executive council of KMSS, the oldest literary institution of the country on Saturday while the poll of the Executive Council-2015-16 of KMSS was going on at 2-30 PM, a gang of 30-40 people equipped with fire arms and cocktails stormed into the poll centre at KMSS building in the city and snatched the ballot boxes away by blasting cocktails.
At that time, they also vandalised for booths of the polling centre and damaged other properties along with a motor bike. Twenty people were injured in the incident. Candidates, polling officer and the people present being panicky ran hither and thither in fear and tried to save their lives. A chaotic situation prevailed at that time.
Rahmatullah, ADC (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said, some people suddenly attacked on the polling centre at 2-30 PM. Upon hearing, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Three explosive-like materials were recovered from the place of occurrence, he added. He admitted the snatching of ballot boxes at that time.
