BCL again attacks JnU students: 30 injured

At least 30 students of the Jagannath University were injured when the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) again attacked the agitating students on Monday during their procession at 10.30am. Twelve of them, including three females, were seriously injured.
Rebuffing the allegation, JnU unit BCL General Secretary Sirajul Islam said, “The university unit left-wing students’ organization attacked us when we formed a human chain on the premises of the university Shaheed Minar for construction of halls.”
Abhi Devnath, a Protestor, said, “Despite obstruction of BCL, we will continue our demonstration for dormitory until the Prime Minister assures us.”
In the meantime, some miscreants identified as Imran Ahmed, Mobarak Hossain, Monirujjaman Tufan and Subrata Mondal attacked JnU Journalists’ Association office and vandalised materials of at least Tk two lakh breaking the office gate in the morning. They looted two laptops and other valuable documents of the journalists.
The JnUJA filed a GD with Kotwali Thana in this regard.
JnU Proctor Dr Noor Mohammad said, “We will take stern action against the guilty ones after an investigation in this regard.”
JnUJA boycotted all kinds of positive news of the unit BCL for attacking a journalist yesterday, said a press release. In the afternoon, the Progressive Student Alliances including Samajtantrik Chhatra Front and Bangladesh Chhatra Union of the university unit brought out a procession in the city’s Shahbag area in protest against the attack on the agitating students of JnU.
Since August 1, the JnU students have been demonstrating for allotment of lands on the abandoned premises of Central Jail in Old Dhaka for residential halls named after Bangabandhu and four National Leaders.
