Some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) once again attacked the quota reformists on Monday morning when they were taking preparation to bring out a procession from the Central Shaheed Minar in protest against Sunday’s attack on them.
Just before the procession starts, a section of BCL activists swooped on at least four demonstrators, including two girls. On Sunday the BCL activists attacked the quota reformists in front of DU central library where at least 15 protestors were wounded.
Besides, after beating severely they handed over two reformists, including Faruk Hasan, Joint Convener of Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Forum (BGSRPF), to Shabagh Police Station..
The BGSRPF will continue their countrywide demonstrations by boycotting classes and examinations in all universities and colleges across the country.
Convener of BGSRPF Hasan Al Mamun informed this programme schedule to this correspondent on Monday evening.
On the other hand, a section of teachers and students of DU English Department formed a human chain at foot of Aparageyo Bangla on Monday morning in protest against the brutal attack on Nurul Hoque Nur, Joint-convener of BGSRPF, also a student of English Department of DU who is still undergoing treatment.
Right before forming human chain, BCL tried to foil this occasion by threatening teachers and showing motorbike down around the Aparageyo Bangla.
Defying students league’s intimidation, teachers and students of English Department carried out their protest after a while.
Addressing the human chain, Associate Professor of English Department Tasneem Mahbub said, “We want to make a safe campus because BCL marring the congenial atmosphere of the varsity threatening and assaulting general students and teachers.”
To foil the reformists’ pre-schedule demonstration, Central and DU unit BCL took several position in places on campus.
They also showed motorbike down at campus to intimidate the general students so that they cannot show such audacity to form any human chain.
Around 1:00 pm, a section of BCL leaders led by Vice President Sakib Hasan Swim and Joint Secretary Didar Mohammad Nijamul Islam were gone over Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and searched several wards looking for injured quota reformists who were assaulted by them.
In this regard, DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbany told reporters that,” I am not informed about Sunday’s BCL attack as nobody has submit any written or oral complaint.”
However, replying a reporter’s query the proctor said, “We did not deploy BCL as campus safeguard because we have a proctorial body to deal this matter.”
A section of students will form a human chain under the banner of Students against repression today (Tuesday) at 11:00 pm protesting BCL attacked.
Our Correspondents also reports from Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Rajshahi University, saying the quota reformists tried to hold their pre-schedule demonstration but the BCL men foiled their programme attacking students.
