Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student front of ruling Awami League, giving pressure on authority locked Barisal Government Brojo Mohun College canteen to get lease.
Humayun Kabir, the leaser of the canteen, alleged that he operating the canteen since last seven years and the lease tenure ended on February 28.
I duly applied for extending lease or give at least six months time to find out alternative livelihood sources of my family. But the college authourity by the pressure of BCL activists rejecting my lease-extension prayer and without giving any time for taking away my furniture and utensils locked the canteen on March 16, Humaun added.
Nurul Ambia Babu, BCL leader of the college unit, led the locking activities of the canteen daily needed for more than 25 thousand students of the college, sources said.
Prof. Kazi Nazrul Islam , vice principal of the college, acknowledged that college authourity locked the canteen by 15-day time rejecting renewal prayer of the 7-year old leaser.
The canteen yet not leased to any body. Fresh leasing and opening of the canteen now under process, the vice principal of the college told.
Nurul Ambia Babu, the accused BCL leader, said not he, but the college authority locked the canteen.
I am not taking the lease of the canteen by my name. However I am helping my boys to get lease and operate that with new decorations and fresh menus, Babu told.
