Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, allegedly beat up three students of Jahangirnagar University on Sunday night.
Witnesses said the BCL activists of Mir Mosharaf Hossain Hall unit, led by Jabed Sajal of Economics Department and Rabiul Islam of Urban and Regional Planning Department beat up Alamgir, Yeasir and Masud of Bio-chemistry and Molecular Biology Department with iron rods and cricket stamps as they refused to collect money from the residential students for a sick person.
The injured were admitted to JU medical centre.
The BCL activists are reportedly loyal to JU unit BCL Organizing Secretary Faisal Hossen.
Proctor of the university Prof Tapan Kumar Saha yesterday said that the hall authorities would take legal action in this regard. Hall provost Prof Obaidur Rahman said those who would be found responsible for the incident after investigation must be punished.
