Ekram murder: BCL activist Masud held

Police arrested a local activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from College Road area of the district town for his alleged involvement in the killing of Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Masud, son of Abu Ahmed alias Abul Khayer of Char Kakra village in Companyganj upazila of Noakhali district.
Police said, acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided the College Road area at around 8:30pm and arrested Masud from near Shahid Hossain Uddin Market of the town.
With Masud’s arrest, the number of arrestees in the Ekramul murder case now stands at 29. Investigation officer (IO) of the case and inspector (investigation) of Feni Model Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said Abidul Islam Abid, one of those on the killing mission, in the confessional Statement Under Section 164 admitted that Masud also had involvement in the murder.
On May 20, Ekram, also president of Fulgazi upazila unit of Awami League, came under attack by miscreants in front of Bilasi Cinema Hall in the morning on his way to Fulgazi municipality office from his Masterpara residence in the district town.
The miscreants intercepted his microbus and fired shots on him from a very close range and then set fire to the vehicle. They left the scene after confirming Ekram’s death on the spot.
