Bangladesh Coastguard (BCG)members Chandpur led by station Commander Lft M Asaduzzaman in a sudden drive at Meghna Mohona area near Chandpur town seized 15 maunds of Jatka from a Dhaka bound passenger launch MV Karnafuly-13 early today Friday.
Acting on a tip off, the drive, launched at around 2 am, intercepted the Dhaka bound launch MV Karnafuly-13 from southern district at Meghna Mohona near Chandpur Boro Station and seized about six hundred kilograms (15 maunds ) of jatka from the launch.
The team could not, however, find the owner of the jatka nor the team could detain anyone in this rehgard.
Today noon, all the seized jatkas was distributed among the local distressed and destitute people at the Coastguard station yard. DC office’s Executive Magistrate Mohammad Ujjal Hossain and Sadar Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer Mahbubey Alam were present at the time of distribution of Jatkas.
